Hump Magnets

Handle High-Volume Product Flow

Bunting Hump Magnets and Half-Hump Magnets provide dependable and economical permanent magnetic protection against tramp iron damage in a wide range of applications. They are used in the food, chemical, plastics, textile, and other industries to remove ferrous fines, as well as large pieces of tramp iron, from many types of dry particulate or clumpy, hard to flow material.

Increase Product Purity and Productivity

Like all Bunting Cartridges, Grates, Drawer Magnets, and other separation equipment, our Plate Magnets are engineered for easy installation, low maintenance, and long service. They are designed to:

•    REDUCE CONTAMINATION REJECTS

•    PREVENT EQUIPMENT DAMAGE

•    RECLAIM FERROUS MATERIAL

•    REDUCE TRAMP METAL HAZARDS

Bunting Plate Magnets are excellent general purpose separators for removing scrap from conveyed materials. They can significantly reduce downtime, maintenance, and costly wear and tear on production machinery.

Add Self-Cleaning Convenience

If very frequent cleaning or magnet location and accessibility are likely to be problems, consider our Self-Cleaning Models.

Select Rare Earth Power

Select powerful Rare Earth Plate Magnets to get the power you need in a lighter weight magnet or for high-flow and other demanding applications. Their light weight reduces the risk of over-stressed spouting. Rare Earth Plate Magnets provide superior surface holding strength and wipe-off resistance.

Standard Hump Magnets

Bunting Hump Magnets remove large pieces of tramp iron as well as fine ferrous fragments from gravity-flow materials before they reach storage bins or processing equipment. The "hump" shape directs the product flow into the magnetic field and also breaks up clumps of material for maximum protection against entrapped contaminants. Materials that bridge easily with grate-type magnets flow smoothly through these units.

Easy Manual Cleaning

Hump Magnets have two Bunting Plate Magnets hinged and gasketed to the rugged steel housing. These plate magnets unlatch and swing open for quick manual-cleaning.

Self-Cleaning Hump Magnets

Pneumatic control provides safe, easy operation. Cleaning takes only seconds to complete. With the product flow temporarily shut down, the magnets and a pneumatic discharge gate swing back to release the tramp iron collected through a special discharge chute. Magnets and gate then return to operating position so that processing can resume. Bunting can provide a complete pre-engineered control package for proper sequencing of the cleaning cycle. Contact a Bunting sales engineer to discuss this important option.

You can locate self-cleaning separation equipment where it will work most efficiently - where product velocity and depth of flow are lower - without considering accessibility. Your operator needn't handle magnets in remote or awkward locations. Self-Cleaning Humps can save you operator time and down-time.

How to Select Hump Magnets

Use the table here or on the next page to find the Hump of Half-Hump Magnet that comes closest to matching your spouting dimensions. Find your spouting size in the table and select the corresponding Hump Magnet.

This table is calculated for typical flow rates for the listed spouting sizes. To select a magnet for low flow rates or special applications, consult a Bunting Sales Engineer. Be sure to specify your choice of magnet face, magnetic material, self-cleaning option, and construction grade when you order.  For more information on plate magnets and magnet face designs, see Bunting Spec. Sheet 2020.
